Overview

What Glint is and why it exists.

Glint is a lightweight media player for macOS. It aims to be an uncluttered player that opens any file you give it, keeps your place across sessions, and gets out of the way while you watch or listen.

Highlights

Why people love Glint.

Plays mp4, mkv, mov, webm, avi, mp3, flac, m4a and more.

Folders sort naturally, so Ep 2 comes before Ep 10.

Gapless repeat-one, repeat-all and stop-after-current modes.

Always-on-top mini player that floats over other apps.

Full keyboard control, with a shortcuts reference in Settings.

Controls and playlist fade out when the mouse is still.

The story

From problem to product.

The problem

Many Mac media players are either limited in which formats they open or heavy and full of controls you rarely use. Watching a folder of episodes, getting subtitles to load, or picking up where you stopped often means fiddling with settings.

The approach

A focused player built on libmpv, so nearly any format just plays. You can drop in files or whole folders, and they become a naturally sorted playlist. Subtitles load automatically, and every file resumes where you left it. Controls fade away while you watch, a mini player floats over other apps, and audio can play with the main window hidden.

How it came together.
