1. Scope
This Privacy Policy explains how Emmaus collects, uses, and protects information when you use the mobile app, create an account, study guides and FAQ and Catechism/Scripture content, bookmark material, take part in the community question and reply feature, and use related support and account pages on this website.
2. Information We Collect
- Account data: name, email address, and password (stored as a salted hash, never in plain text).
- Study activity data: bookmarks you save against study guides, categories, and FAQ or Catechism/Scripture entries.
- Community content: questions and replies you post, including any text you submit, along with their visibility and moderation status.
- Support submission data: name, email, subject, and message you submit through the support form.
- Technical data: IP address and user-agent data used for operational and security purposes, such as email verification and password reset requests.
3. How We Use Information
- To create and secure your account, verify your email address, and authenticate sign-in.
- To let you save bookmarks and pick up study guides, FAQ, and Catechism/Scripture references where you left off.
- To publish your questions and replies to the community and to moderate that content for quality and appropriateness.
- To respond to support requests and communicate updates related to your inquiry.
- To maintain platform reliability, service quality, and security monitoring.
4. Community Content Visibility
Questions and replies you post are visible to other members of the Emmaus community as part of the shared question-and-answer feature, unless that content has been hidden through moderation. Please avoid including personal information you would not want visible to other members within the text of a question or reply.
5. Moderation
Questions and replies may be reviewed and hidden if they do not meet community standards. Moderation actions are recorded to maintain a consistent and respectful community space, and hidden content is no longer shown to other members.
6. Sharing and Disclosure With Third Parties
Personal information is not sold. Information may be shared only when required for operations, legal compliance, security, or with trusted service providers assisting with hosting, email delivery, and maintenance.
7. Data Retention and Account Deletion
Account, bookmark, and community data is retained for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, it is deactivated immediately and its personal information is anonymized after a short retention window (currently 30 days), after which identifying details are scrubbed. Previously posted questions and replies may be retained in anonymized form to preserve the continuity of community discussions. Support submissions are retained as needed for request handling and record-keeping, then removed when no longer required.
8. Data Security
Passwords are stored as salted hashes, not in plain text. Reasonable technical and organizational measures are used to protect information from unauthorized access, loss, or misuse. No internet transmission can be guaranteed as fully secure.
9. Children's Privacy
Emmaus is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
10. Your Rights
You can update your account details and delete your account directly from the app. Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have additional rights to request access, correction, deletion, or limitation of personal data processing by contacting us through the support page.
